Privacy Policy

Draft placeholder — have this reviewed by a lawyer before launch, particularly for GDPR (GayMap has EU users) and any local rules on processing sexual-orientation-adjacent data, which several frameworks (incl. GDPR Art. 9) treat as a special category requiring extra care and an explicit legal basis.

1. What we collect

• Account data: email, username, date of birth (used only to verify you're 18+, never shown publicly).
• Profile data: display name, bio, status, avatar — all optional, all editable/deletable by you.
• Location: only if you opt in; used to compute a rounded distance to other users, never shown as exact coordinates to anyone else.
• Content: places/events you submit, reviews, public chat messages, direct messages.
• Technical data: standard server logs (IP, timestamps) for security and abuse prevention.

2. How we use it

To operate the map, chat, and messaging features; to moderate content and enforce our Terms; to keep the service secure.

3. Who can see what

Your username, avatar, bio, and status are public. Your exact location is never shared — other users only see a rounded distance, computed server-side. Direct messages are visible only to the two participants. Your date of birth is never shared with other users.

4. Data retention & deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings (placeholder — build this before launch if not already present). Deleting your account removes your profile and location data; content you posted publicly (reviews, approved places) may be retained in anonymized form.

5. Third parties

We use Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) to run GayMap. We do not sell your data. See Supabase's own privacy policy for how they process data on our behalf.

6. Your rights (EU/UK users)

You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact privacy@gaymap.fun (placeholder) to exercise these rights.
